The Zoo

Perfect Photo

Last week we three went to the Toronto Zoo. Jamie and I haven't been in a few years, and we figured Audra would be the perfect age to see all the animals.
One of the remaining elephants left in the zoo, after Bob Barker took the rest to California. Audra and I quickly tried to get a picture with the elephant, but it was like he knew, and was not having his picture taken with us.
No elephants in the shot! Not even a tail. Man, did he boogie out of that shot!
You can't tell by any of the shots that Jamie took, but she is sitting on a stone elephant. It would have been such a cute shot. It now just looks like she is sitting on a rock! No luck at the elephants!

It was a great day, lots of sun, and not overly muggy, perfect for lots of walking. But most animals were chill, just hanging out.
This was one of Audra's favourites, the pink mingo's. Lol.
Loved the jellyfish. Such a cool shot.
Fighting the komodo dragon! Then off to the sting ray exhibit.
You got to pat them and let them swim around. Little Miss wasn't too sure about them, especially when they splashed. But was not impressed to leave so I think they were a hit.
Our other fav of the day, baby Hudson, the polar bear. He was born in October of last year. He was so cute. While he got fed, his parents were busy cooling off and swimming around.

Still amazed some days by what our camera picks up. It was pretty dark, but all those fish turned out awesome!
And you know it's been a good day, when 10 minutes into the car ride home, someone looks like this! She, and we, had a great day. Traffic was good both ways, no one got burnt, and Audra is still talking about the zoo and the pink 'mingos, and polar bears, so I think it was a success.
Thanks for the memories zoo. We'll be back to visit when you get the Giant Panda exhibit. Can't wait.

Hexi's and Mother's Day

New mug rug finished. This was my first attempt at hexi's, and while I'm not totally in love in with them yet, I do like the finished results. They are mildly time consuming. And I opted not paper piecing, and just sewing them together. They at least line up relatively well.
This was one of my mom's presents for mothers day.
Then for the two grandma's we took regular frames and added some chalkboard stickers to the bottom and that way they can be customized. When you switch out the pictures, you can write whatever you like in chalk at the bottom.
Think I may need to make some of these types of frames for us. I love the chalkboard sheets, you can put them wherever, and use them for so many things.

I didn't take any pictures, but also embellished some tea towels for the lovely ladies. I got some super absorbent white dish towels and added some fabric and ric rac to pretty them up. I have some great Michael Miller Cookery fabric just waiting to go on some tea towels for my house.

Snack Bags

Made some snack bags for a friend recently and am pretty happy with how they turned out.
The outside is olicloth, which is not recommended to used inside for little people. So I just lined them with cotton, and you can turn they out and shake them. Trying to find laminated cotton is next to impossible, may have to splurge and order some online, that way I can line the inside with it and the bag can be used for wetter snacks too, like fruit or veggies.
