Fun at the Farm

After a week of being sick, it was time to get out the house and run around. The perfect place was Frootogos farm in Waterdown. It's where we apple pick and will probably get our pumpkin this year. They open the farm beginning of August to the public. They have revamped their play place, and the huge space is enclosed, so perfect for entertaining kids, but gimpy ankled-pregnant people don't need to run and chase. A win win!
They have chickens, bunnies and goats to see.

Bouncy horses that were a hit with both girls.
So many things to play with. I should have done a panoramic shot, I have never seen so many items in one place. Every car, ride on toy, multiple swing sets, slides, sandboxes, you name it, it was there.
After running around like mad women, we bought some local carrots and fed the bunnies. The sky were looking a little threatening, and the lack of nap for someone was also starting to show.

Can't wait for fall. They will open their big corn maze in the back and hopefully they will have some great pumpkins for picking. Will have to get our apple picking in earlier this year, so I can get everything done and canned and made before baby sister arrives. Who knows if we will have time when she gets here. lol. We are already taking bets on whether I will be in the hospital for thanksgiving. Only because it's my favourite season/holiday do I think that is when she'll make her appearance. lol. Hopefully we get a fair or two in.

Off work

You know you're off work when your stove is working overtime. With this awful ankle, I find getting a bit of stuff done all at once helps out and then I'm not on it so much daily.
Made some very yummy cauliflower soup. I love soup, doesn't matter the season, I can eat it whenever! Audra too for the most part.

Wish I could say the tomato sauce was all homegrown, but no garden means no tomatoes. :(
They are local Ontario tomatoes though.
Noodles for Wazonki, a polish dish my Babcia used to make for us all the time. Combines ham and sauteed onions and noodles with just a bit of seasoning, so yummy. Audra loved it.

Picture/Fabric Puzzle

Uploading the camera you always seem to find treasures. I forgot all about this. I made it for Audra and Jamie to play with. I took a picture, applied some fabric to the back and then just cut it up. I kept it simple as to not totally destroy the picture, and both really liked it.

Wondering where this got to now? Audra has been loving her puzzles lately and this would be good to add to the mix.

Pregnant BFF's

Had to take some pictures to actually document the two pregnant bellys, as I don't think it will happen again. There's a month between us, so we'll see how far apart the babies actually come.

House cleaning

When house cleaning gets too loud but you still want to do it, just put on your ear plugs and you will be all set.
How hilarious are these? I couldn't resist some pictures to have as blackmail later on! haha

Month 31

Time just keeps creeping by. Somehow it's already the beginning of August. The 31 month post is a wee bit late. But we've busy. Playing outside, visiting, going to the pool and working. While we were in St Williams, Gramma Sue bought Audra a kite. It was hilarious watching her and Jamie. She didn't really care that it was flying off the ground. She kept grabbing the tail and running the opposite way of the kite and Jamie trying to fly it. We were all in stitches laughing.

Grammy and Papa's house has a bigger pool now, so you love to share and have everyone swim with you. You are so funny, like a fish in water. We are going to look into swimming lessons for you in the fall. You love the water so much. If only Aunt Charlotte had a bigger pool, she would be a fantastic teacher.

Love your rockstar pose! "Yeah, I'm cool, and I know it!"
We did fireworks for Canada Day, and even though you have "seen" fireworks before, this was really, your first time. You were quite amazed and were oohhing and aahhing like the rest of us. Yay for not being scared.
That hair of yours just keeps on getting longer and longer and longer. You look so old in this picture. So big. Big sister and baby sister are your new favourite things to say. You point to my ever growing belly and say baby sista in belly. Baby sista sleep in crib. Share Daisy with Baby sista. Sure! Its so cute, but I think you really don't have any idea as to what's coming. That's fine, we'll adjust, we always do.
You are at that attention seeking age, and doing my best to make sure you get lots before our attention has to be divided.
We took you to your first movie last week and you survived much better then we thought you would. Silvercity plays older movies for $3 on Saturday mornings. Last week was the Curious George movie, which you have seen and love, so we figured you would be content with the movie. You sat in the little booster with your popcorn and drink. Loving it. When the lights dimmed, you weren't sure what was going on, but once the movie started, you were good for at least an hour.  That was about the time all the kids in the theater started getting restless. We will definitely take you to another.

The next two months will be interesting. You will go from being the only child, to the big sister. Not so much my baby anymore. But a little girl. Still hard for this momma somedays. Hard to believe. Lots of just Audra time coming up though, by the looks of it, will be off, trying to heal this ankle.

More nesting and a quilt

Well, my first "official" quilt is done. And as much as there are little imperfections here and there, I am actually pleased with how it turned out. I made it with one new special baby in mind.
The jelly roll came from Joann's in the states, and wish I had gotten more, so I could make Audra a matching quilt. These great bright colours have me itching to redo Audra's room, that will soon be a shared room.
I can't remember what the jelly roll fabric is called. But the back is backed in Anna Maria Horner, that I have been saving for a special occasion. It's from her Good Folks line, I believe, and harder to come by. I love that this is not a tradition baby quilt, with muted colours. I think it will look great in the white bassinet, and then in the white crib. (and could be a great jumping off point for the room. Think I could convince Jamie?)
I made a little quilted pillow to match. The pattern definitely has a few wonky spots, that's what happens when you don't like to measure and iron. I just wanted something small to fit in the bassinet, to be able to prop up the baby a bit. Or a pillow for the glider. I am sure the actual use, will be whatever Audra wants to do with it when I'm not looking!
I sewed all the strips together, actually putting batting in, then backed it. Then stitched in the ditch down each line. Figured with my first "real" kinda quilt, would keep it easy and simple. Once that was sewed together, I had Jamie help me trim it all up (apparently it is getting a little harder to bend and hunch over a quilt on the ground 7 months pregnant-who knew? Glad I didn't wait much longer to make this quilt!). He's such a wonderful guy. With my sprained ankle, I am sure he would have helped me sew it if need be.

I wanted to just keep it simple so bought my own bias tape instead of making it. With so much pink and brown already in the quilt, I pulled some of the blue/turquoise out and choose a similar bias tape. I really like how it turned out.
Yes, it's a little wonky here and there, but it's made with lots of love. As all good quilts should be. As baby sister still doesn't have an official name yet, once we decide I plan on embroidering it in.

Some nesting....

Nesting has begun. I feel that no mom should be without multiple burp cloths. I love making these ones. They fit on your should nice, they aren't super huge and bulky and I try to find nice soft flannel to make them with, so it just gets softer with every wash. I have made a ton of them recently, and have given a few away. New moms always appreciate them.
Some girly patterns for my girl, and some monkeys and jungle animals, because they are just so cute!

Family Time

Went to visit Gramps and Gramma Sue, and their guests, Cousin Tim and Aunt Sandy.

It was great to see everyone and spend some time with them. A nice relaxing day with people we love.

Homemade Raspberry Rhubarb Jam

Pulling out all the jamming supplies.
We have wild raspberries growing out back. They are small and very, very seedy. But tasty. So Jamie slaved away straining them to realize the two big bowls only yielded about two and a half cups, and we needed 5 to make jam. So to our rhubarb patch we went. And the makings of raspberry rhubarb jam began. Because the raspberries were strained, it's so thick and syrupy. Mmm, mmm, mmmm!
(Only because I couldn't resist putting in this goofy shot!)
And then seriously stirring his jam. It didn't yield a ton of jam. Next summer we will have to get to the raspberries quicker. They seemed to not be ready for weeks, then suddenly they were done. This year hasn't been a great year for crops. The pick your own farms, really small. I opted out of picking our own raspberries at the farm, as the price was really high. I did manage to find a good deal at Costco and bought 6 packs of raspberries that yielded 5 jars of just raspberry jam.
So our little jam pantry shelf is slowly growing. Lots of strawberry, strawberry rhubarb, some raspberry and some homegrown raspberry rhubarb.
Would love to do some more canning, maybe pickles and beans? Need to look up some recipes I think.

Countdown Shirt

I have seen these shirts all over the place, so thought I would whip one up quickly. I didn't really measure all the numbers and plan them out, as it's not exactly straight and centered, but I like it anyway.
These pictures are definitely from a few weeks ago, or almost 6. lol. Audra thought it was cool.
I am carrying so different with this baby. She's sitting a lot lower then Audra did. So my belly is a little rounder and a little longer, as opposed to wider and spread out like the first pregnancy.
And because we have to continue the tradition, momma and papa bellies.
