Pulling out all the jamming supplies.
We have wild raspberries growing out back. They are small and very, very seedy. But tasty. So Jamie slaved away straining them to realize the two big bowls only yielded about two and a half cups, and we needed 5 to make jam. So to our rhubarb patch we went. And the makings of raspberry rhubarb jam began. Because the raspberries were strained, it's so thick and syrupy. Mmm, mmm, mmmm!
(Only because I couldn't resist putting in this goofy shot!)
And then seriously stirring his jam. It didn't yield a ton of jam. Next summer we will have to get to the raspberries quicker. They seemed to not be ready for weeks, then suddenly they were done. This year hasn't been a great year for crops. The pick your own farms, really small. I opted out of picking our own raspberries at the farm, as the price was really high. I did manage to find a good deal at Costco and bought 6 packs of raspberries that yielded 5 jars of just raspberry jam.
So our little jam pantry shelf is slowly growing. Lots of strawberry, strawberry rhubarb, some raspberry and some homegrown raspberry rhubarb.
Would love to do some more canning, maybe pickles and beans? Need to look up some recipes I think.
