Apple Picking

A gorgeous Sunday morning lead us to Frootogo's Farm in Waterdown, to pick some apples.
It's the same farm we went to last year to pick pumpkins. They are small, and family friendly, and love being able to support a very local farm.
They have some animals, a corn maze, and huge kids playground (that we didn't get to as the little miss was getting tired) and trees upon trees of apples.

Then there was the apple the monkey had to eat. The pictures were so hard to take as I was laughing. The sheer determination on her face and the concentration? So funny! She loved it. Ate almost a whole one then started another.

Another great tradition to start. It will eventually teach her that good food can be close. Supporting local is great, a good lesson for us all.

The baking and cooking has already started.
The crockpot turned out a stellar apple sauce, that I added raspberries and strawberries to. So good. The apples are so sweet and wonderful, that there is not a drop of added sugar to the apple sauce. I made some apple chips too, and we'll see what the little monkey thinks of them. She loved the apple sauce so much, as did we, that I think the crockpot will be filled tomorrow with much of the same.

Yay for fall being here. Yay for great apples. And yay for hanging up wreaths and leaves and pumpkins.

21 Months

I feel like these posts come quicker and quicker. How is already the 21st month? How are you going to be two so very soon? Your Aunt Kat posted a picture of you on facebook recently, from the day you were born, and I don't remember you that small. Hard to believe the little miss you've become.

You never cease to surprise me or your dad. The two of us are constantly amazed at what you do. You are so funny, and there are many times that we have to turn away because we, or I, feel like we shouldn't encourage you or your antics. You want to eat whatever we do, and watching you eat with a spoon makes me nothing short of nervous. I have seen what you can do with a spoon and yogurt. But an entire bowl of soup was eaten and I don't think a drop fell. Good job my little monkey.
You love grilled cheese, and of course ketchup. You dip, dip and dip some more. It's so cute. You even say dip, dip.

You love new things, and are such a daredevil. I feel like I chase you all the time now. Nothing seems to be safe anymore. Your new favourite thing is to jump all over your dad, which is kinda funny. He doesn't quite agree right after dinner, but humors you just the same.
As the seasons are starting to change, I have to switch out all your summer clothes and it's amazing to me that next year you won't be wearing them. You started out so small, how have you gotten so big? I look at the clothes that are hanging in your closet and I think, don't grow, I don't want you to fit into those yet.
But, the world keeps turning, you keep growing and no matter what I do, it's going to happen. We went and saw the genetics team the other day, and they are so happy for you being "normal". You have had no health episodes and that's a good thing. The less amount of health scares an Mcad child has, the better. But we always worry and do everything in our power to keep you safe and protected. We always will, that's what parents do. Hey, it's because of us you are saddled with it. You are so special and unique, one in 17,00 in Mcad terms, and one in a million in our eyes.
Happy 21st month baby.

I found this picture on Pinterest and couldn't resist posting it. It's so true and funny all at the same time!

Early Hallowe'en

My little monkey has become a little Winnie the Pooh. Hallowe'en is quite some time away, but thought to myself recently, do we have any costumes that will fit her? The monkey outfit from last year still fits, and low and behold, so does this great fleece Winnie the Pooh that my Dad got her last year.
Since trying it on, she has been wanting to wear it all the time now. Oh goodness. And you have to love the added addition of the sunglasses.

Girly Post

So it has taken a long time, but I can finally get the little monkey's hair into pigtails, and even a little french braid. She actually keeps the braids in rather well, as opposed to just ponytails, which she thoroughly enjoys pulling out.

And how cute are these painted piggy's? Couldn't resist. Used the quickest drying stuff, and she actually let us paint them. It was a two parent kinda job but it was cute.

My new bag

My new bag. Which if I do say so, turned out exactly to what I wanted.

I am really at the point with little miss go-go-go, the less I have to carry the better. And as much as I love my nice purses, they just don't sit on my shoulder well, don't hold enough and I am finding that they are getting tossed around.

So when I couldn't find one to my liking, this crafty girl thought, hey, I can make a new purse, and that's what I did.

A good friend of mine placed a fabric order and I definitely went in on it. Who doesn't love the wonderful Innocent Crush line by Anna Maria Horner? I would have ordered the whole line if silly little things like money weren't an object. I love these two fabrics together. The orange reminds me of fall and it's just fun and cheery.
The pattern is from sew4home.com. I think they made it as a book bag, but works perfectly for a mom on the go.
The bag is just lined with a white thicker cotton, and I put an inside pocket, and metal snaps. I was kinda proud of myself for those. They turned out great.
The inside shots are a little dark, will have to take it outside and snap some pictures.

One of my favourite sites, luvinthemommyhood, is helping to host Celebrate Color, on Stitched in Color. They are celebrating all things fall, and as this is my new fall bag, I thought I would submit it in the Wearable/Fabric category.
It's a wonderful site. Can't wait to see what others link up.
