This is what my helper did most of the time, that was fine though, she was good the whole time we were there.
It was a good season, and glad we went early on, as a week later, strawberries, or at least pick your own, were harder to come by. Nice and sweet and fair size.
Tried some freezer strawberry pineapple jam. Not usually a big fan of freezer jam as I find it's really sugary (well all jam is) because you don't cook it. But the strawberry pineapple intruiged me, so thought I would see what happens. We haven't cracked it open yet, and worse case, we'll put it on ice cream or throw some into smoothies if it's not great jam.
My other little helper. She was perfectly content to sit and play with the lids while I made jam. Hey, kept her happy for quite some time and gave this momma some peace and quiet,
Costco had raspberries on sale, so stocked up on those too, and made some yummy strawberry raspberry jam. By far, my favourite jam to make.
And with that, my makeshift pantry/jam shelf is once again filled. Love
seeing it filled and knowing that we will have jam for the next year.
Our raspberries in the back are almost done, so will have to pick and
make some more jam I suppose. The raspberries are wild and a little
seedy so some straining and de-seeding will be required. But they end up
making a mean jam. We experimented and made raspberry rhubarb that was
fantastic last year. Think my rhubarb will be good to pick again, have
already cut one batch one, so round two will be perfect for more jam
making. Then it's on to pickles, where hopefully the crop this year is
better, then tomatoes. Oh tomatoes. Such a pain, but so worth it. We ran
out of homemade ketchup recently, so will have to definitely make more
then one batch this year to last us. Certainly a huge difference between
homemade and Heinz.
